What is the Chief end of man?
- To Glorify G-d
- To enjoy Him Forever
“As the revelry of Purim recedes into memory, we stand at the threshold of something greater—a sacred passage from concealed joy to unveiled reality. The masks have fallen, the boundaries of the material moment have dissolved, and now, we embark on the deeper journey—a pursuit not of fleeting ecstasy, but of the profound, the eternal, the very essence of Deep Spirituality itself. What was hidden must now be sought with open eyes, with hearts set on fire by the echoes of redemption, drawing ever nearer to the Infinite.”
This Shir Yom Rishon was a discussion based on Yehoshua (Joshua) 1:8 and 1:6. The First verse was set to establish mental patterns for us to follow in Daily Life.
Yehoshua (Joshua) 1:8-9
8 Have this book of the Torah always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may carefully keep everything that is written in it. Then your undertakings will prosper, then you will have success. [Dt 6:6; 17:19] 9 Have I not told you, “Be strong and stand firm. Be fearless and undaunted, for wherever you go, the LORD your God is with you.”?’
The second verse sets the stage for the idea that the ideology of the Book of Yehoshua is a metaphor for our mental stability. This is based on a displacement ideology. I discovered the displacement method for negative thoughts years ago for my mental distraction. Because I thought it was a sound idea, I committed myself to get rid of the negative thought as soon as it came into my mind and attacked the negativity like a lion to prey. I became the hunter of my thoughts and forced all negative thoughts to leave. I did this every day for a year, and after that, I was free for years with no moments of distraction. At some point I stopped practicing the method and eventually I noticed some moments of depression so I went back to the “method” and it helped immensely.
Thus, the principle of casting out the evil inhabitants of the land sets the stage for the mental practice of keeping the mind free from negativity.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Messiah, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
These verses establish this ideology of displacement as a means of maintaining mental health.
In this class I briefly discuss the stages I went through to regain my mind from the fantasy world I lived in as a young boy. I trace my footsteps through the three (four) challenges that taught me the truth of mental stability from a basically Jewish perspective. As a Jewish convert, my experience of mastering the mind began in the congregations of Christianity. Now that I have converted I see these perspectives from a strictly Jewish perspective. However, because verses from the Nazarean Codicil help us understand the meanings of the Torah, I have used them in this lecture.
