A Taste of Hebrew #38 – Echad – One
I discuss in this program the Hebrew word “Echad” which is usually translated “one.” Like the previous words with regards to the Biblical Day this word helps us further understand the Biblical cycle of the day.
However, this word is somewhat problematic when it is used as a phrase “yom echad.” We discuss these probles and give lexical definitions for our words.
Birkat HaChama
In this class we study the blessing of the Sun which only occurs once every 28 years. However, there are several questions with regard to this blessing.
Why is this calender used in contrast to the 19 year lunar/solar cycle?
Do these calendars ever harmonize?
If so, how often?
We discuss this and much more in this class.
Rabbinic Festivals
This lesson begins with the introduction to Chanukah and Purim as Rabbinic Festivals. I overview each Festival in brevity. We then begin to look into Purim and all the spiritual significance related to the festival. I conclude by looking at the aspects of Test, Allurement and Achievement as a message found in the Festival.
We begin this class by looking at the Festivals. Then we begin to look at the essence of time and the Biblical view of how it functions. We elaborate on the mechanism of time.

This coming Thursday night we will be discussing the Festival of Purim. It would be advantageous to read the book of Esther.
Following the class on Purim we will be taking a look at the Pesach Seder. I will be posting a downloadable Hagaddah before the class for review and study.
